How do I check the status of my divorce?
Virginia’s Judicial System Case Information web page shows the status of Dinwiddie County Divorce Cases, including the plaintiff’s and defendant’s names, pleadings filed and hearing dates. You will need to select a court, then type your name, and select civil search. If the status of your case shows dismissed you will need to check the pleadings and orders screen to see if your final decree or divorce has been entered. To check the pleadings and orders, check on your case then select the pleadings and orders button at the top. If a final decree of divorce has been entered it should say final order with "Final Decree of Divorce" in the remarks field and the date it was entered. Lawyers are highly recommended and are commonly used to represent parties in divorce cases, although it is not required. Are "legal separations" filed in the Dinwiddie County Circuit Court?
No, civil actions, such as divorce suits, and other matters allowed by law are filed in Circuit Court. Consult your attorney regarding this subject.
How can I determine filing fees?

How can I obtain a State Vital Statistics VS-4?
The lawyer for the party requesting a divorce must submit a VS-4 form. This form may be obtained from the Clerk’s Office.
How may I obtain copies of orders and pleadings?
Copies of final decrees of divorce are sent to the attorneys for the parties unless otherwise ordered by the court. Copies of non-confidential pleadings or extra copies of orders may be requested in person or in writing. The fee for copies is 50¢ per page. A $2.00 fee is charged for certifying a copy. Mail in requests must be accompanied by check or money order payable to Dinwiddie County Circuit Court Clerk covering the copy cost.
