Robert and Betty Ragsdale Community Center

About the Center
In May 2007, the family of the late Robert and Betty Ragsdale graciously donated the old Alleen Clothing factory in McKenney, VA to the Dinwiddie County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department. The family's wish was to see the building revitalized for the purpose of serving the community.

The Dinwiddie County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department strives to provide safe, clean, ever-improving facilities, while offering diverse year round leisure and recreational opportunities for all of our citizens. We want to provide a balanced recreational program which will enhance the overall well being and quality of life for all who participate. The Dinwiddie County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department has worked indefatigably with Baxter Bailey & Associates to create plans and a concept to transform this particular structure into a recreational facility that will serve the county and its citizens.

We are excited to announce that this building, located at 20916 Old School Road, will be the future site of the Robert & Betty Ragsdale Community Center. The community center is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2017.

At the present time there are limited recreational activities and programs taking place in the McKenney area. This area of Dinwiddie is located on the far southwest end of the county which is about 30 miles away from our Recreation Office where we offer the majority of our services. This center will be designed to host a variety of diverse classes, programs, and events. Along with these activities and other amenities, the center will also house the McKenney branch of the Appomattox Regional Library system and the McKenney location for Virginia Cooperative Extension Services, thus allowing us to provide a myriad of new recreational services for this area of the county.

NEW!!!  Leave a Legacy Donation Program
Thank you for your interest in donating to the Robert and Betty Ragsdale Community Center.  Your selfless donation will help enhance the community center's amenities.  For donor markers, the center will feature a prominent wall display in the main foyer and each leaf will be inscribed with the donor name.  Different colors of the metallic leaves will be used to demarcate the level of gift being recognized.  The tree can grow over time to acknowledge new donors.  Leave a lasting legacy and donate to the Robert & Betty Ragsdale Community Center!!!
