The Library of Virginia is a center for genealogical research. Records for counties throughout Virginia including wills, deeds, marriage bonds, military service records, church records, Land Office records (patents and grants), and tax records are located there. It also has census records and genealogical notes and charts.
The Virginia Historical Society has genealogical notes and charts, family papers, Bible records, county histories, and census records in its collection.
The Dinwiddie County Historical Society was founded to promote serious and accurate genealogical and historical research by provision and instruction regarding source records, near and far, which may be available to the serious researcher for this purpose, by the presentation of genealogical and historical seminars, workshops, field trips which teach and promote the furtherance of family research by individuals, and/or groups; by publishing on an occasional basis and or encouraging the publication of fully documented, heretofore unpublished genealogical/historical data; and to cherish, reclaim and preserve the priceless American heritage bequeathed by our ancestors to the end that coming generations of Americans may know and profit by the identities and experiences of their forebears.
